A

Abbreviation for advertising.

An electronic account in which the user’s data is stored.
“Abo” is short for “Abonnement” (subscription) and refers to an agreement between a customer and a provider in which the customer pays regularly for access to certain products or services. Subscriptions are typically offered for digital content such as music streaming, video streaming, magazines, or software. With a subscription, the customer generally receives ongoing access to the desired content or services.
Computer-based systems with intelligence similar to that of humans. That means they have the ability to learn independently and solve complex problems. Today’s systems are mostly still rule-based and limited to optimizing specialized tasks such as extracting information, recognizing patterns, or processing and generating natural language text. The era of AI is therefore still to come.

A “canvas.” It can refer to many things, from the video window in an editing program to a visualization of business models (Business Model Canvas).

A conversation on the internet, usually in writing.
Communication refers to the process of exchanging information, ideas, and feelings between individuals or groups. Verbal and nonverbal means such as language, gestures, facial expressions, and writing are used to convey and understand messages. Communication enables the transfer of knowledge, the sharing of experiences, and the formation of social relationships.

An entity that offers a service to meet the needs of others and receives something in return. It exists only through the continuation of actions, decisions, and expectations of people.

D

This is not about the general technical protection of data (that is data security), but about the protection of personal data in particular.

 

Protecting analogue and digital data from loss and from misuse by unauthorized users or cyberattacks.

“Doing something right,” i.e., designing the process with the best possible effort-to-benefit ratio.

Neutral feedback. Information about what the recipient understood (factual level) or experienced (personal level). It can include praise and recognition or constructive criticism.

FAQ stands for “Frequently Asked Questions” and refers to a collection of questions and answers on a specific topic. An FAQ list is intended to answer common user or customer questions in advance and provide information. It enables quick and easy orientation and support for frequent concerns.

The use of game-like elements, for example challenging problems to be solved within a limited time with increasing difficulty, immediate feedback after small learning successes, or leaderboards with highscores and awards. Gamification elements address emotions and are meant to trigger curiosity and ambition.

The expansion of human capabilities and the increase of human performance. This can be achieved with substances, aids and body parts, or technologies.

Immersion describes the effect in virtual reality in which the user perceives a virtual environment as real and allows themselves to be distracted by illusory stimuli.

A license refers to a legal agreement that allows a person or company to acquire or use certain rights to intellectual property, such as software, music, images, or text. By purchasing a license, the licensee receives permission to use the protected material under certain conditions, while the licensor retains control over its use. Licenses can include various restrictions or conditions, such as the duration of use, the number of users, or the permitted purposes.

A platform refers to a digital infrastructure or service that enables users to share, consume, or interact with content. A platform often provides a central place for users to register, upload content, communicate with other users, and access various services or features. Examples of platforms include social networks, video streaming services, or the VR Speech Trainer platform.

Pico is a company that offers VR headsets for various application areas. Their products are known for being compact and user-friendly. Pico headsets are often used in entertainment, education, and professional applications.

The ratio of a result to a selected influencing factor. Important KPIs for companies include return on investment (ROI), return on equity, or return on sales.

Q

According to ISO, “the totality of characteristics of an entity that bear on its ability to satisfy stated and implied needs.” Ultimately, it is the extent to which customer requirements are met. Therefore, it can only be measured by the customer’s assessment, even if the customer is not a subject matter expert. This judgment is not always objective, but is often shaped by a subjective evaluation.

“Quest” generally refers to the search for something or the pursuit of a particular goal. It can also imply a sense of adventure or exploration.

Meta Quest is a standalone VR headset developed by Meta. With wireless freedom, handy controllers, and a wide range of VR experiences, it allows users to dive into virtual worlds, play games, and watch videos. Meta Quest has established itself as a popular product that offers accessible VR experiences for both VR enthusiasts and casual users.

Non-technical skills and behaviors that promote interpersonal communication, collaboration, leadership, and problem solving. They are crucial for success in personal and professional contexts.

SideQuest is a platform that allows VR enthusiasts to discover, download, and manage content for various VR headsets. It is an independent platform developed by the VR community and offers a wide variety of games, apps, and add-ons for VR headsets. SideQuest makes it easy for developers to distribute their content, including content that may not be available in the official store of the respective VR platform. A social group that wants to solve a defined task together and actually manages to leverage the performance potential of collaboration. Otherwise it remains a group and the “high-performing team” stays wishful thinking.

A term that encompasses various immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR).

Y

A rotational movement around the vertical axis within a virtual environment. Yaw allows the user to change their viewing angle horizontally.

Z

A specific area or space intended for the use of virtual reality. This can be a dedicated room with tracking systems or a designated area in which VR experiences can be carried out safely.
